Top 10 Tech Trends in 2023
2023 will see a major boost in tech. Here are 10 of the top tech trends to keep in mind.
For any business, it is vital to be ahead of the technological curve, which is why we must all be up-to-date with the latest and upcoming technology advancements. 2023 is proving to be a bumper year, and here are the top 10 tech trends we must all keep an eye on.
1. The Metaverse
The “metaverse” has clearly made progress over the last year. The metaverse is a type of alternative reality where we can, effectively, live. Augmented reality and virtual reality will advance, and the metaverse will become a key form of escapism for many individuals, but also provide a real alternate dimension.
2. More AI
Artificial Intelligence has evolved over the years, and we are already seeing how AI can bridge the gap between the customer and the business, especially in the retail sector. AI will make it easier for consumers to find things they want, but also pay for and receive goods and services. What does this mean for employees? Far from them being put out of a job, AI will be integral to their roles. Utilising chatbots is a very good example, but contrary to popular belief, workers will not be out of a job, but will instead have to work alongside AI.
3. Humanized Robots
In the coming year, we will see robots appearing more like humans and doing the work of humans. Robots already perform a variety of complex tasks in warehouse environments, but we will see them in more real-world settings, for example, as concierges and event greeters.
4. Sustainable Technology
We've all been looking at how we can harness more sustainable technology. We are all focused on our gadgets and smartphones doing things for us, but as the year progresses, people will be considering the best ways to be more sustainable so they can benefit mother Earth as much as they do in their lives.
5. Green Technology
Following sustainable technology, we will see bigger industries tackling the climate crisis on a much larger scale. We are likely to see greater progress around clean-burning sources of energy, such as green hydrogen and decentralised power grids. We've seen in 2022 just how reliant we are on gas and energy, not least in European countries held to ransom by Russia, but we will see a greater need to decentralise energy initiatives and decrease carbon emissions in the process.
6. Web3
Web3 is the concept of the next iteration of the World Wide Web, that takes into account blockchain technologies and economics based on tokens, for example, non-fungible tokens (NFTs). NFTs will become more usable in the next year, and will potentially give you access to things that previously required money. It's very likely we will see NFTs and the blockchain integrating into the modern world.
7. Changes in Nature
Far from nature being allowed to grow, we are now living in a world where we can make significant changes using nanotechnology, enabling us to create materials with new features. In 2023, it's very likely we will see gene editing technology accelerate to the point where we can alter DNA, as has been evidenced by the CRISPR-Cas9 project.
8. The Development of Quantum Computing
This uses subatomic particles to create new methods of storing and processing information, which would help computers to operate infinitely quicker than the fastest processors on the planet.
9. The Increase in Autonomy
Autonomous systems have been prevalent for a number of years, especially in the logistics and delivery industries. There have been many warehouses that have become partially or completely autonomous, but we will see a rise in autonomy through self-driving trucks, and many warehouses and factories will start to work smarter through this technology.
10. The Bridge Between the Digital and the Physical World
The world of Web3 and AI have helped businesses and individuals alike to go between the digital and physical worlds seamlessly, and the advent of 3D printing and digital twin technology has allowed specialists to make significant alterations to components in the virtual world before turning them into a prototype. We've seen the impact of something like chatbots. A chatbot is easily configured at the prototype stage and can integrate new and exciting features, such as learning languages and ways of speech, for example, the Artie (AI) system we use utilises Natural Language Processing (NLP), which understands many iterations of a question.
2023 will be a very exciting year for tech trends, and it's important that we are all aware of what is to come, so we can be ahead of the curve.
