Improving your customer’s website experience

Improving your customer’s website experience

Your website is one of the first things a customer sees, so it has to be able to capture their attention and work smoothly and effectively. Many websites are cluttered, don’t work well, and don’t provide the information your customers needs to make a decision, so we at Click4Assistance decided to put together a list to help you make your website more effective and generate more revenue for your business.

Why is website experience important?

The last thing you want is someone visiting your website, jumping straight out and moving on to a competitor’s website. Let’s look at a scenario where your website is not the best and someone visits your website through a blog they saw on social media. They like what you had to say, so now they want to learn more and they click through to the home page. If it takes too long to load, they’re gone, regardless of if your website is the best layout, but for this exercise, let’s assume they waited. Your website is cluttered, has text on top of poor quality photos, and does not say much about your company or what your company offers. They leave your website not learning about your business or your products and services, and you are now one potential customer less. That’s why it’s important to make sure your website’s experience is the best it can be.

Content

The content on your website tells your visitors who you are, what you do and why they should use you over a competitor. Text should be concise, but comprehensive enough to tell the visitor what you do. It should showcase clear headlines and be large enough to read without being too large. Photos should be high quality, but also using a lazy loader so that it does not slow down the website.

White space

This is probably one of the most underrated changes you can make on your website. White space gives sections, headers, photos and text breathing room, so that it does not feel overly crowded and the information can be better absorbed. By adding just 10-15 pixels of white space, your sections will feel a lot roomier and it will give your website a more sophisticated look.

Page speed

This is a tough one, especially if you are using a Wordpress website with a lot of plugins. While we all love the use of plugins to add a lot of great functionality to websites, unfortunately, it does tend to slow your website down quite a bit. Use only the plugins you need, and also use caching and speed tools to get your website loading faster.

Eliminate 404s

No one likes to go to a page and get hit with a 404 page not found error. Try to keep your links consistent and if you have changed any of your links, always use a redirect tool so that your website is not full of 404s.

Consistency

Consistency is key for a great website experience. No one likes going to a website and finding that every page is different and nothing follows a set layout or style, unless your website is supposed to look like a Frankenstein. People like consistency in layouts as they don’t have to waste energy trying to digest the layout every time, just the content.

Use bullet point

While this may not always be obvious, bullet points are universal and people know they are a list. They look tidy and organised and allow you to say a lot with less words. Just don’t have more than a few bullet point lists on the same page.

Mobile friendly

Everyone has one of those magical glass devices that glow and provide infinite information at their fingertips, so your website layout should take that into consideration. The best way to go is with a responsive design, so that your desktop to tablet to mobile experience is seamless, and it costs a fraction rather than separate designs. But with more than half of all web traffic happening on a smartphone, it is important that your website is just as beautiful and the experience is just as good as on a computer.
